i see what you're saying, but i would think that they'd want even more for their shares. and regardless, i can see how insider selling will just be used as fodder for the shorts/bashers.

Insiders dont hold. They sell early and often. The last thing they want is to compete with the herd. Holding for runs is usually for company dilution purposes.
