Probably given more credit than for what they actually do but indeed they are very real. You don't have to believe me, just read some of the FOMC own writings.

Yeah, I agree exactly with the other two posters. Augie's 1000 to 1 is probably about right. I bet they have intervened aggressively less than 10 times since summer 1998.
