You need to get rid of that 3 iron. The BEST move I made was to get one of these new utility/rescue clubs that replaces the 3/4 iron. I bought the Mizuno Fli-Hi Iron and it is the EASIEST club I have ever hit!! And I am not joking, every single shot I hit feels sooooo solid I just can't believe it.
It probably knocked 3 shots off my score by not having to hit the 3 or 4 iron on long approaches and long par 3's. I highly reccommend to anyone that doesn't have one to go get one NOW!!!
