They are selling product, millions of dollars in US ARMY contracts, they are making money, those are just a few reasons.

They also have the ability to recruit and PAY the top brains in the field, something that Gosy seems unable to do.

I guess one could go with the FACTS BE FACTS scenario or one could believe that Martin Spencer is smarter than all the engineers, roboticists, software developers etc. that IRBT has on board or can hire if needed.

Maybe Martin could get a job at IRBT and start saving towards launching his own project. Probably more productive than arguing with 5-6 people on a MB. Dont you think?

Whisper - the problem is that the others have the money and tech's to blow GOSY away when the time is right and the market is ready - all the proprietary things you push are not really that special when it gets down to a company pushing the novel ideas through. You say they have tried and spent millions - not from what i can tell - looks like I-Robot just popped out a model that needs a little tweaking and they are good to go???????

Here's another brief article about Ava

Although the computational-heavy sensor data processing and navigation is done internally by AVA’s on-board computer, the high-level control is left to whatever device is connected to its head. In the video below, you can see AVA being controlled by an iPad.

In the video AVA is called a "technology demonstrator" and they took her to the Consumer Electronics Show in January "to show what IRobot is capable of from a technical perspective".

The article states:

The future of AVA is uncertain, but it could be immediately useful for telepresence. Nevertheless, iRobot does not want to limit the public’s vision of the robot to a single application.

Ava is an incomplete prototype.
