Tim, Even if 0% of the laptop market cares about 64bits, the fact that AMDs 64bit chips run the old 32 bit software means your Jaguar analogy is very faulty.
I guess better analogies would have been IBM OS/2 or AMD's own 3DNow, but I chose the Jaguar analogy because of the old "Do the math" slogan.
Besides, software incompatibility didn't kill Jaguar (IMO), because even one that was compatible with PlayStation 1 wouldn't have flown. What really killed it was the obvious: no unique must-have games and no marketing muscle besides the ads.
