Good article. Unfortunately, I don't think anything there is a very good choice. The fact that there really isn't a good way to protect your gains means that nobody will. And, when they don't, the panic will be everywhere. Millions and millions of people will be seeing chunks of their net worth evaporating and they won't like it and they won't have any ability to do anything about it. At least you could sell your stock portfolio in 5 minutes in 2000 if you wanted. With the extremely large number of uninhabited homes (second, third, speculative, etc) flooding the market, it will only take down the prices of everything else IMO.
