#57396 RE: j3pflynn #57394

Nice analyst show. Like the new details on the upcoming architecture. Greater integer compute density (cluster threading) along with a more potent FPU which will be painful for all the competitors. Eventually SMT might have to be added to round it off but this approach is probably best for AMD considering Power 6/Rock already have the SMT approach sown-up which is only of value in memory bound applications anyway and maybe of less value anyway when core density gets higher with lower process shrinks. No doubt that in cache bound applications this cluster approach is the best approach and will be very tasty compute wise. Also new L3 cache tops this off nicely in keeping it on cache. The new FPU could also be a problem for Itanium depending on its capability. In summary K10 should be very potent and well worth looking forward to in 2007. Also wonder if the new 32-way config is an 8-way quad or genuine expansion of 8 to 32-way.
