EDIT: the selling price of the thermometer is $19.50, $12.50 is their cost.

$19.50 is what they bill it out at. then the retailers will deduct from that price whatever "SPECIAL DEALS AND INCENTIVES"

I guess I should mention that the Robinson Patman Act of 1936 controls how companies price their products to different customers and dictates a "Proportionately Equal" doctrine. Sarbanes Oxley also controls certain aspects and more specifically attempts to control retailer abuses on cash discounts etc.
