Maybe it's better viewed as a step forward in the PR process.
While some can and will view it in a negative light there is no reason to be displeased with this PR. It is forward moving and defines the progress and goals much better than a nebulous announcement that they might, maybe, have a functional cure even though no human testing has been done.
