Its a psychological game. When one is very distressed and emotional over such a financial loss, their thinking becomes irrational (this is a normal human reaction, by no means are these people stupid). All the while, Joe is causing greater and greater bitterness, Jeff/James are looking more and more like angels who are trying to selflessly and altruistically help the poor old QASP SH but they cannot because of evil old Joe! So since one cannot get swapped shares, which would make them rich, what should they do? Why not pull out the check book and dump another 10K into reliable and moral NHSH (unlike the evil QASP) without even an ounce of DD? Unfortunately, many good people will fall into this trap (some have already).
