It's like saying, 40% more dentists prefer Crest toothpaste over brand X. Although this sounds impressive, if only 10 dentists were surveyed, then the results would look like this:
Prefer Crest: 7 dentists
Prefer brand X : 3 dentists
The same information could be presented as, "Out of all dentists surveyed, only 4 more preferred Crest over brand X."
