Outdoor lighting system powered by the sun and wind
ECO-POLE is an energy efficient, self energized, free-standing 60 Watt LED outdoor lighting system that is powered by a patent pending wind turbine and solar panel. Using only wind and sun, ECO-POLE can be placed just about anywhere that outdoor lighting is required.
SavWatt USA, Inc, a Baltimore-based manufacturing firm, created the "Eco Pole" as a clean energy solution for traditional light poles. The pole includes both a wind turbine and a solar panel, combining to produce a consistent, environmentally-friendly source of power for the energy efficient LED light. "A recent installation of the ECO-POLE at the Maryland Science Center will also include an integrating monitoring system on public display to provide an educational resource for Marylanders about clean energy solutions."
The 300W wind turbine has a soft, lightweight hydro carbon polymer blade which works with a low start up wind speed from any direction and the dual 90W solar panels have a 36 hour battery back-up energy storage system. Besides the obvious advantages of free energy from the sun and wind to power the lighting system, the Eco-Pole will also operate for 50 thousand hours without requiring maintenance, according to SavWatt.
