The escaped baboon who went on a wild run through the suburbs of New Jersey was finally nabbed today at a horse farm.

The mischievous monkey was brought down at about 2:30 p.m. with a tranquilizer dart on the Hosie Hay and Straw horse farm in Howell Township, where it gave the farm owner and a farmhand quite a scare during a work break.

"We have a lot of horses, but this is our first baboon," said Jim Hosie. "It was one hell of a way to take a coffee break."

The simian’s sojourn is believed to have started when it broke out of the baboon exhibit in the animal sanctuary
at the Six Flags Great Adventure theme park in Jackson, NJ

The baboon was spotted Friday night at a golf course, but trappers missed it with a dart and it vanished into the woods.

Yesterday it was spotted around the towns of Howell and Freehold, about 10 miles from the park. At one point it was sighted running through the yards of homeowners along a waterway not far from the farm.

Finally it arrived at Hosie’s farm, and jumped up 12 feet into a hay loft where it encountered the farmer and his farm hand, Alain Robillard.

"I just took a bale of hay and kept it between the baboon and me," Robillard said. "Cops got here fast. The first shot, they shot him."

The baboon was taken away by workers who said they were from Six Flags.
