Oh good grief! Doesn't the old coot know that sex with someone so many years younger than you could result in death? I guess his view is: "If she dies, she dies."
Doug married the aspiring country singer last month, and when Us Weekly picked up the story [ http://www.usmagazine.com/celebritynews/news/green-miles-doug-hutchison-51-marries-aspiring-country-singer-16-2011206 ], it became an overnight media scandal. You'd almost feel bad for these two -- who really did do everything by the book to make sure their marriage was legit and had the blessing of her parents -- until they started using this uncomfortable nuptial announcement to get more media attention. It would be one thing if they were looking for privacy, out from under the public eye. But Courtney's got a singing career [ http://popdust.com/2011/06/20/courtney-stodden-doug-hutchison-wedding-country-singer/ ] that she evidently thinks her 51-year-old husband can help her with, and there's a reality show they're trying to pitch. Besides, how else can they show the world how sacred their love is unless they go on TV and talk about it?
Below, the video from today's interview, along with the five most cringe-worthy moments from the whole affair.
1. Doug saying he was unaware of Courtney's age when she first hit on him. On the Internet. Which is where they fell in love.
2. Courtney telling the world that she's an old soul. And hasn't had any plastic surgery. And was a virgin until her wedding. She's just, like, the perfect Christian.
3. Courtney's mom's response to Doug: "I can feel my daughter's love for you. I can feel it inside of my heart." Doug is older that Courtney's father.
4. The part where they jokingly talk about how he's a pedophile and her parents are pimps and she's a whore. Ha ... ha?
5. The part where 39 states allow 16-year-old teens to get married to people who would otherwise be convicted of statutory rape for touching them. And the part where only six states allow gay people to marry.
Doug Hutchison and Courtney Stodden discuss icky May-December marriage 07/15/2011 [...] The interview shared several useful pieces of information, including: — The fact that Stodden really is 16. “GMA” verified her birth certificate. The buxom teen also is really good at making pouty-lipped faces during interviews. (I verified that last bit while watching “GMA’s” interview.) — At 51, Hutchison is four years older than his wife’s dad. — Hutchison’s agent and manager dropped him after the wedding. His mother also stopped speaking to him. — Stodden, who first met her husband online, saved her virginity for marriage. (She is “a good, Christian girl,” according to her parents, who gave the necessary legal consent for the wedding.) “I knew that if I kept that, I would be blessed with a beautiful gift,” she says. “And God did. He blessed me with my soulmate.” — The couple insists they married for love and not to boost their careers or gain attention. “GMA’s” Lara Spencer notes, however, that they are currently shopping a reality show. And I think we can all agree that the kerfuffle over their unconventional relationship has earned them more publicity than they ever could have snagged without it.
