Watch: North Dakota flooding worsens rapidly

As the Souris River continues to rise, flooding in Minot, ND appears likely to be even worse than expected. According to the Associated Press, as of Friday water levels had risen nearly four feet in less than a day, stunning local residents. Four thousand homes are now expected to be flooded.

CBS News in Minot reported on Friday morning that a fifty-foot chunk of a dike has been swept away. Officials have also ordered accelerated water releases from a dam above the city, which could raise the flooding by an additional three feet. Ten thousand people have already left the city and more are being asked to evacuate.

Water levels are expected to crest at more than 8 1/2 feet beyond major flood state on Saturday or Sunday and could remain high for up to a week.
