Could be. OTOH it's being held up by a delighted looking Hans Deppe, manager of FAB36. I suppose he could elect to have his biography photo be one of him holding up a wafer from someone else's FAB, but I would find that surprising.

If you download the zipped version and check the date of the original file, it's dated 21 days after the start of pilot production at FAB36 - how long does it take to process a "hot lot" wafer?

UMC offers standard rush processing time of "under 4 weeks" for a 6 layer production wafer for anyone who asks for it. http://www.umc.com/English/pdf/PROfoundry_6.pdf

These would be 8 or 9 layer, but given much more attention than even "rush" standard production so the timing is about right for the first wafer lot.

If you download the photo and look at it full size, you will see that it is one happy looking Hans Deppe....

He has that "I just won a really big bet" look.
