Cliff's Notes version:

*Nortel owes over $10 billion

*Through liquidation of Nortel's assets, the bankruptcy court has raised about $3 billion

* There is one last major group of assets left and it is in the process of being liquidated (i.e., the "Nortel patent auction" that everyone speaks of so frequently about) and it will bring in at least $900 million, the current bid placed by Google.

There are additional creditors, Nortel bondholders, etc., all in line before shareholders of the "Q" ;-)
