In defense of sorta, and with all due respect to the poster who discussed (his) deeply personal problem, TA is NOT the format for such a discussion. If not already part of Ihub, I suggest this poster start a message board dedicated to personal/emotional problems.

I feel sorry for his having been abused. I unloaded on him before he claimed abuse. But whatever environment young children live in, it is normal to them. He apparently figured out it was bad and spent has most of his life dealing with it. But it is still not an excuse for religion, although if it works for him, fine.

The UN has determined that fully one-third of women in the world are abused either sexually or violently before they are 18.

Most people survive and move on, and find a way to not view the world through the lens of abuse. Some repeat it on the next generation. I personally don't think that dwelling on it daily after having acted out on it is a good way to relate to the world. It belongs in therapy as everyone has their cross to bear. And certainly gives no one the moral high ground to tell us how to live our lives, who to worship, or who to vote for.

Just as I am no expert on medicine just because i broke my arm jumping over a barbed wire fence, he has no right to tell others how to live just because he had a miserable childhood.

"was that really necessary? "

Yes. First of all, who says we should believe him?

And second, why does he get a pass on harming others with his psychobabble/religion dressed up as compassion?

Sexuality is not bad. It's part of being human (or animal). People who think sex is bad are bad. People who teach that sex is bad are worse.

Maybe all the horror he supposedly endured was at the hands of people as repressed as he would have everyone else be.

Yes, I felt that it was necessary. I still do, and I'd say it again. I have values that I find worth defending also.
