#141384 RE: F6 #141344

F6, Wyden and Udall seem to be working for the people on this one .. how come so many say that no pollies ever do .. lol ..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RK3s6QA25rU&feature=player_embedded

That video was gleaned from 'About Tom', on the left in Tom Udall's site here .. http://tomudall.senate.gov/

A Patriot Act search of Ron Wyden's site gave these ..
http://wyden.senate.gov/searchresults.cfm?q=patriot+act&btnG.x=26&btnG.y=3&site=wyden&num=10&filter=0

Add .. Though the NYT is an indispensable resource, i must say, Spencer Ackerman's 'Wired' sure offered more than NYT did in this one ..

///////////////////

NOW .. heh .. OT, yet it kinda fits here as it seems it's all about INTERPRETATION everywhere .. Patriot Act and Constitution ..

Thank you, F6, it was a great post for me ..

LOL .. the first link in Ackerman's took me way back, yet again, to the Articles Of Confederation .. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Articles_of_Confederation .., (problem, it didn't give Fed gov. power to set and collect taxes, and some naughty states held back), and the Constitution of the United States .. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Constitution ..

RE TAXING .. as still much debate abounds in other places on that ..

"Article I, Section 8, Clause 1 of the United States Constitution, is known as the Taxing and Spending
Clause. It is the clause that gives the federal government of the United States its power of taxation.

Component parts of this clause are known as the General Welfare Clause and the Uniformity Clause."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxing_and_Spending_Clause ..

again . to Madison and Hamilton, coauthors of the Federalist, re taxing, and the interpretation of the General Welfare
Clause .. Madison's narrow vs Hamilton's broad, and to, Jefferson, siding with Madison's narrow interpretation.

Note: Hamilton's broad interpretation: 'taxing for the general welfare' of the GWC
means taxing for the regulation of commerce, and predominates in case law today.

Madison's narrow view is unusual compared to most states and other countries.

Study note list .. LOL .. please correct any stuff-ups ..
