Not sure I can be particularly enlightening, but I don't see why Leerink would have to make a physical pigrimage to Ariad headquarters just to arrange an offering.

Seems more likely that visit is being arranged(possibly at the request of Ariad) to draw attention to some positive development: target upgrade, partnership announcement, etc.

Aren't services like flyonthewall designed as a vehicle for intentional leaks, when you want the information to get out, but you want to be a little less obvious than a press release?

Of course, a true conspiracy theorist might conclude that such an event is designed to imply a positive development as a setup(along with potentially positive abstract releases) for a negative surprise(eg. dilution).

Personally though, I don't buy it.

And at the moment, neither does the market!
