You are right, Dell sells hardware. But with every PC they sell, comes an operating system (usually), and a suite of "extras" like DVD burning software, photoshop type software, sometimes accounting software, and virus scan software. They also offer upgrades like MS Office, or other software for a small fee. Dell licenses all this software from the software's manufacturer (programer). Even if Dell includes it in the basic operating system package, they still buy it from companies like WL or Microsoft. They just cover the cost in the basic price of the PC.
So Dell is not a worry for WL. They have agreed to pay for the right to give it to the buyers of their equipment, just like they have agreed to pay Microsoft for the right to give their buyers Windows.
WL's concern is all the other equipment manufacturers that are using their predictive keyboard in their equipment without paying for the right to do so. These guys are what the lawyers are hired for. The lawyers will file suit against these companies to force them to pay for the use of the Predictive Keyboard.
Dell= apples, infringers = oranges. (not to overuse an analogy, but I think I just did)
