It was a very conservative Richard Nixon who took us off the gold standard. I think liberals have less interest in satisfying lobbies who would NOT want a gold standard, therefore your statement seems confusing .The reason our liberal President has spent well beyond where he should have,is really because the alternative was worse.You have ,if I remember correctly, inferred that in the past. Gold standards scare people that cannot operate within a system of restrictions and regulations.That sounds like a conservative nightmare ,not a liberals.
