#69629 RE: philozarton #69624

OT: Philo: Doncha be dissin' dat dere letefisk. How many people can say dey can eat cod soaked in lye until it resembles jellyfish and live to talk about it?

We ate it every Christmas Eve until both of my sisters married German guys with weak constitutions. They could only handle the Swedish meatballs my mom included so they would not go hungry. Sadly my half-breed (Norwegian/German) nieces and nephews have never been exposed to the delicacy, therefore we don't know if they inherited the weak German constitutions or the superior Norwegian ones.

The following web page offers an insight into eating lutefisk for the the first time, but I also think you might enjoy the "You might be from Wisconsin if ....." (green section):

Being from North Dakota and Minnesota originally and still part of the culture as many members of both sides of my family remain there, I understand a lot of it (including the bargains at Fleet Farm in Fargo), but the Wisconson-specific nuances escape me. Do they fit?
