THE ANSWER IS HAM… if Berlin/ Ellicotteville were a ham processing plants rather than power plants no one would object. All they have to do is say they are smoking meats and the power produced is a by-product of the smoking process. Who doesn’t like ham or bacon? They can even make a “Laidlaw Kosher ham” from turkey and beef. I would love to live in a town that smelled like smoked bacon.
I'm not sure why the whole town, the whole county and the whole state should suffer as a result of people owning property next to a pre-existing plant. Your 100% right that the plant didn't spring up overnight and whoever purchased and/or rented the property knew that the possibility was there from the start.
