As the nation's largest holder of licensed Local Multipoint Distribution System (LMDS) spectrum with coverage in 81 metropolitan markets across the United States, XO Communications is leveraging this wireless technology, where available, to extend the reach of its 19,000-mile nationwide fiber network. From wireless hubs deployed on its expansive fiber network, XO Communications can connect customer locations directly to its network via high-speed point-to-point wireless links at speeds from 100Mbps to 1Gbps to deliver a number of services including Ethernet, VPN and private line services, as well as provide network redundancy and business continuity solutions.
"If there was any doubt as to the potential for their LMDS spectrum, XO also wrote off another $20M in value it had ascribed to those licenses, leaving just $7.5M of it on their balance sheet."
