The reason cd drm has taken so long is because nothing like MediaMax has existed until now. MMXT/SCMI working in close collaboration with companies like BMG, have spent about 6 years creating an ideal solution with no playability problems...and an ideal tradeoff of limited copies for bonus content on cd's.
