The study found that students — even in the same classrooms — didn't perceive bias in the same ways (or at all), and those who perceived bias were those who were resistant to changing any of their views. The finding extended to some who identified themselves as being far on the left and resistant to change, and who believed that they had some biased conservative professors. But among both left-leaning and right-leaning students who didn't score high on resistance to new ideas, there was little perception of bias.
To clarify this, for the dumb students who will, with any luck, compose outraged emails to us after being forwarded this post: while the research accompanying this study "found no evidence of real bias," it did find that kids who are very resistant to change thought their professors were biased, because the professor, perhaps, challenged the student's views. Since the student is paying money to the professor to teach the student with the implicit understanding that the student knows far less than the professor about the subject at hand, these findings indicate that the students in question—who mistake the educational process for "bias"—are dumb.

Big is a big thing in the brain department. According to a new global study, and having a relatively huge mass inside our head should give more headways in terms of intelligence and mental stability.
More than 200 scientists from around the world have agreed that a big brain could be a definite edge in the IQ competition, where another report issued by the Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR) showed that the large size brain can actually be counted on in getting good marks on standard IQ evaluations.
On the extreme end, people with observed shrinking hippocampus, regarded by science as the brain's major components, were said to be more susceptible to depression or in worst cases may develop schizophrenia and Alzheimer's.
According to QIMR's Dr Margie Wright, genes have been zeroed-in as prime determinant in people's different brain sizes but the law of natural deterioration also catches up with human as Dr Wright noted that "we can lose up to 10 per cent of our brain volume in later life."
Dr Wright, who contributed in the new global study, told the Australian Associated Press (AAP) on Thursday that diminishing brain faculties are "quite significant in people with the genetic variant that increases shrinkage."
In the same way, these were the same bracket of people that have been identified by medical science as likely to develop dementia and other mental deterioration due their negligence or withdrawal from healthy standards as they age.
These people were not normally engage in physical exercises, observe harmful diet while some even abuse alcohol, Dr Wright said.
While the new study offered incredible insights into the intricate workings of genes and the human brain, Dr Wright conceded that "effects of the two genes on brain size are very small and the links to cognitive function are subtle."
The global study should at least spur succeeding research efforts that would enlighten man on how genetics could actually influence shaping of the human brain, eventually giving out clearer pictures on mental ailments that man encounter, the Queensland scientist said.
The study has so far produced a huge database of brain images, which according to Dr Wright, future researchers can refer to in decoding the mysteries of the human brain, which should bring up a better understanding of genetics' role in ramping up man's potential for excellence.
Equally, further research milestones on the topic could further empower man in the future on its fight against human brain deterioration, which is manifested in specific medical conditions such as memory loss, schizophrenia and Alzheimer's, the Australian expert said.
