The court is impartial, as long as they show up both sides will get treated fairly. The continuance will be at the discretion of the judge and if they feel the reason given is substantial to grant it.
As for how favorable it will look, would also be at the discretion of the judge. If it is granted, that will have no effect on the outcome of the case.
