Joe, well said. My employees are required to work hard and it's hard work but they don't mind because I don't ask them to do anything I wouldn't.... well nothing that I haven't done. LOL Actually the equipment does the hard work, it's in my best interest to keep my people in good health because without my qualified people my blood pressure goes off the map.:>)

Joe, good points. What most people don't realize is the only reason Walmart makes any money at all is because they don't pay wages and benefits on a union scale.

I calculated the difference a few months ago, and they'd basically be lucky to break even if they were unionized.

People can't have it both ways. They can't buy from a superstore at deep discounts when that retailer has high labor costs.

As for the working conditions at Walmart, I've found people who complain the most about work complain no matter where they work. There are just people who don't like the idea of someone else dictating to them what they should do 8-hours a day. That's often just their personality.

I've found the people who are happiest at work take initiative and do their best no matter what they're doing. They take pride in doing even simplest things to the best of their ability. Those attitudes often times get those people promoted.

Walmart employees applied to work there. They were not conscripted or drafted. They are free to leave at any time.

As for sweatshops in China, I really would like to have an exchange program with about 50-million Americans going to live in China for a year just to see how good they have it here.

The people who work in the factories in China do it because they are improving their standard of living and making probably triple what they would otherwise be making. Most get paid by piecework, and that accounts for much of the productivity and the "sweatshop" impression.

I visit and inspect about 100 factories in China a year, so I'm probably a bit more of an authority on working conditions in China than some others here.

I know in your store you can probably walk down entire aisles that are made in China. Even if it says "USA" on it, often times it's just assembled here with Chinese parts.

I've even seen respected US companies putting false country of origin labels on their Chinese-made products (putting Made in USA or Made in Germany on them). One of those was shipping directly those products to all the large retailers in the USA.
