Sass,

The nuclear plants' cooling systems malfunctioning in Japan is a unfortunate tragedy and it reiterate the dangers of nuclear power.

I believe nuclear power is under the category of "clean power" because it does not emit much pollutions (green house gas, etc.). To me, the clean power status is a gray area because after the nuclear materials are used up, they need to be stored in remote location for hundreds of years due to their radiation affect.

And nuclear power is not renewable..

IMO, the U.S. should concentrate our resources on energy sources that are both clean and renewable. If we keep improving these technologies, they will get more and more efficient and cheaper.

Don't be quick too quick to call for an end to nuclear power. Solar energy costs are in check partly because economical power from nuclear, coal, and natural gas power plants is available. In other words if only solar power was used to manufacture solar panels the costs would be significantly higher and probably cost prohibitive. Our way of life is dependant on cheap power that solar cannot provide. Solar is great for supplemental grid power, emergencies, electronic devices, and CARS. Presently the technology is years and probably decades away from competing with other energy sources.
