Keith -
We're just anonymous posters on a public forum. We don't run major Corporations and we don't represent shareholders. We speak only for ourselves and we don't need to uphold a certain level of maturity and dignity.

Don't bother. I see clearly now, that this person felt no need to criticise AMD's "childish" Corporate Officers public remarks to the media, apparently, that's OK with them. So, it seems obvious to me, that in reality, this person has no issue with "childish" remarks per se, as long as those remarks are made by AMD's officers, but only has an issue with me making fun of them, when they do. I'm not surprised.

Thanks Anyway :-)

Elmer, I think the behaviour of both companies is silly to the extreme. Personally, I don´t care if one company can issue a
PR on Monday, and the other just days later (because of a long-planned anniversary event). It´s the product that counts, and for me as a shareholder, the revenue potential that it has. Opteron looks very good in this respect.

I´m very unhappy with AMD´s launch policy though. The Turion PR was not only misleading, it contained an outright lie, and I heavily criticized them @ SI for doing so, even if I was the only one to do so.

Do you think they did anything to improve their chances when they whined and snivelled that their plans were based on NOT doing business with DELL? Is this the type of management you would look for when deciding whether or not to use their products in your designs?

I think that Dell made it very clear to them that they would not buy their products for the foreseeable future, they even issued a PR that basically said so. So if they won´t carry Opteron, then of course AMD has to change their strategy from courting Dell to opposing Dell - it´s their best bet to encourage Dell´s competitors to use AMD´s products as a differentiator and a competitive advantage. That´s business 1x1, and this isn´t fluff, IBM has already stated that they would extend their Opteron lines because Dell won´t carry it.

Fact is, Opteron is a lot more valuable for HP, IBM and SUN if Dell doesn´t carry it. And if Dell´s competitors start to win business because of Opteron, then Dell will eventually cave in, too. We´ll see if they will, eventually.
