My shares are also in Scottrade, and I was told that some of mine are "good" and some are not. I asked that very question and was told that "good" shares were "tracked" (my term, not theirs) through the part of the SEC that does that, I forget their name, 3 letters, DDC, DCC something, I forget, but I was told this is how it was done. I was told that Parkin authorized these "extra" shares without the boards permission, I was told it was easy for him to do through the old T/A which has since been shut down by the feds.

At first I was told that shares held electronically where hidden from them, like shares held in Scottrade accounts, I was later told this was no longer true and they then knew our names and the number of share we held and how those shares came into being.
