Right—many docs are prescribing Solodyn based on marketing and trivial copay distinctions rather than adhering to the FDA label.

The recommend dose in the FDA label is 1mg/kg, so a 200lb person, for example, should be taking the legacy 90mg dose. But docs are prescribing the 90mg dose much less often than the new 80mg or 105mg doses.

MRX discontinued shipments of the three legacy strengths of Solodyn on July 1 in an attempt to undermine physician interest in these strengths before they become available as generics in November. It’s Machiavellian, but entirely legal.
