Elmer, I believe all the first PowerMacs had emulation software included, and the PowerPC ISA was made in such a way that it could emulate 680x0 very fast. In this way, the transition was easy, and Apple made sure that PowerPC optimized apps were delivered rather quickly (not as hard to do with the size of the Mac software library in 1995).
