NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Shares of Elan Corp. (ELN) jumped 16% Wednesday after the company received some much needed good news regarding its multiple sclerosis drug, Tysabri, which was removed from the market a few months ago due to safety concerns.

The news has had less of an impact on Tysabri marketing partner Biogen Idec (BIIB), which has been less volatile due to more robust pipeline that has been lending support to its stock.

Late Tuesday, data were released from a two-year study indicating that Tysabri led to a significant reduction in disability progression, the rate of clinical relapses and brain lesions in patients with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis.
