"When I was looking at my options and researching Davinci, I was told 400 procedures was the magic number.
Sobering."

My hospital has 3 da Vinci Surgical Systems & is looking at purchasing another one. I continue to be amazed at the number of procedures which are switching from open or laparoscopic to the da Vinci. I see residents get their first experience on the machine & its hard to believe it takes more then 100 procedures to reach a high level of proficiency. The hardest thing I see is trying to learn how to tie the knots & not the actual dissection.

I really don't see the da Vinci as more difficult to master then basic laparoscopic surgery. If a surgeon is talented with basic laparoscopic procedures then those talents will transfer over to the da Vinci & if a surgeon sucks at basic he will really suck with the da Vinci.
