Whoops. Caught you in an incorrect cliche. Many people go around thinking its "doggie dog" because its hard to tell the difference when spoken. Only when written does it become obvious. The correct phrase is actually "...dog eat dog...". If it makes you feel any better I had to look up vituperative in the dictionary. Thanks for increasing my vocabulary.
