Because the structured elements of the MOS... do not require the overhead of existing PC systems. This because of it's patented allocation scheme and novel ideas to drive it.
The industry is trying to squash down status quo high overhead systems into embedded environments....as fast as they can....lol....SO what!!!

The most important aspect of the system was patented in mid 1998...4 3/4 years or so....and that would be the allocation structure....the key to the whole thing.

It's not about a file system...it's about an allocation scheme that can be molded to fit what every you want....they chose to compose the MOS with it's integrated file system...others could take this allocation and compose something to fit what they think best.
The system they have developed utilizing the patented allocation...MOS...has the adaptability to use many conventions of existing file structures of operating systems currently in use so that it may be considered hardware independent.
It has security at different levels of hierarchy including format. It sports an ability of contiguous and non contiguous data segment arrangements.
It streams data directly to and from flash both NOR and NAND. Different cache/flash schemes allow for different degrees of function for both sequential and non sequential streaming of data.
It's a non homogenous system meaning no special efforts are needed to keep different data types stored separately....makes for a fine multimedia delivery system.
It will drive a large gig HDD or a tiny 1 meg flash chip natively(no translation needed)...that is versatility for sure.
It's set to run DOS attributes....under an embedded environment or other media types. No wasted space for the media.. because of the patented allocation scheme.
It will function at a data segment level of 256 Byte without inode or indexing overhead....Phrase from their site.."Extends Flash memory capabilities - Memory management transparently deals with bad blocks, erase blocks, wear leveling and is independent of data and erase block sizes.FANTASTIC!!!
It can utilize flash as a main memory...if desired..in a RAM like manner within in embedded systems....utilizing a cache as small as 256bytes...this because of it's patented allocation structure....or can be formatted for a larger required state.
It has a low level Bios management system....capable of driving any device necessary....sitting on top of that is a complete complement of high level API.
When you invest in this company you are not just investing in the MOS...but the teachings of what it is built on....and that aspect is patented.
Sorry for not getting back to you and your new site... Tin...I just can't seem to find the time any more. I suggest anyone with an ability/ambition... read the patents on e.Digitals systems.
