We interviewed him - he turned us down - so I've seen his portfolio. There is very large difference in the quality of his portfolio and the quality of design in their application. To me, that is highly indicative of a company that poorly manages their talent and/or gives very little importance to design.
I have no horse in this race - I don't own any shares. I've been following the company very passively since interviewing him because frankly I had never heard of them, and more actively since the boom in December. It's very interesting, but I thought I'd just chime in because the UX is the one thing I can actually comment on.
But generally, I do agree - they need to hire a designer badly. I suspect it will be hard however, for the reasons I outlined in my last post.
