Ariad's current market cap is ~$700,000,000.

Back in 2000, Ariad had 22,000,000 shares outstanding. At $40/share, ARIA would have been valued at $880,000,000.

So, basically, in 2011, Ariad at $5.25, is very close to 1999-2000 Ariad at $40.

Dilution. Sure is a killer.

Well, not quite.

When they hit 48+/share(in 2000), I would estimate they had at least 30ml shares outstanding-

I.E.- Marketcap =1.44Bl

But I take your point in that the differences may not be as great as they seem at first glance.

Still the true measure of the relative lack of momentum now is that we're talking about a company that has real, identifiable value drivers(e.g.Pona all by itself) that is selling for less than half of those momentum peaks.

We're at a point now, in the history of companies like ariad, where investors are reluctant to acknowledge what's right in front of their noses(the obvious value).

That's different!
