bobs, great post! I wouldn´t underestimate INTEL´s 65nm efforts, products like Yonah, that look pretty revolutionary (high-performance dual-core with tiny die size and amazing power consumption characteristics), and even the Prescott shrink with a supposed 65W TDP in addition to Presler might prove to be a bit too much too soon for AMD, but it´s still a little too early to tell. Remember, INTEL products don´t even have to be superiour to
win over the market, just half decent normally is enough, and at least on paper, they seem to look much better than that.
Nothing is known yet about AMD´s 65nm answers, of course, and especially, when we´ll see large volumes shipping into the market. Imho, not before Q4 of 2006.
while it appears that AMD is continuing its’ long established policy of pricing 25% below INTC
It used to be more like 50%. And according to AMD, INTEL´s ASPs are still close to only half that of INTEL´s.
Superior products will eventually lead to superior pricing.
I wouldn´t count on that, but narrowing the huge ASP gap through a comprehensive line-up would already be something.
