Re: contradictive to your perception it meets my expectation for singlecore
I'm not going to make any predictions, but let's just say I would consider a 3.0GHz clock speed with today's process to be... optimistic at best. If it's a case of "borrowing" from future processes (65nm), as AMD has been famous for doing in the past, then maybe we'll see it by Q1 2006.
Re: a notch more for dualcore of what I expected - in particular for the lowpower offers. An 1,6GHz offering in a 30Watt envelope this year already looks impressive (or ambitious, if you want so) for my eyes.
A similar roadmap was leaked by the Inquirer a few months ago, but that article suggested the 1.6GHz EE would be a launch product, not something to occur 2 quarters after the launch. Of course, the article also suggested a 2.4GHz clock speed at the dual core launch, but this won't happen until Q1 2006, according to this roadmap. Furthermore, I would have thought we'd see a second dual core speed bump before 65nm (2.6GHz at full power or 2.2GHz at 55W, for example), but if there is, it doesn't show on this roadmap.
Re: noteworthy AMD does not seem to plan an offering of x42EE products but jumps over to x44EE in half a year.
Not all that surprising to have a 30W 1.8GHz core, given that they expect a 1.6GHz 30W dual core in the following quarter.
Don't get me wrong, though. I'm no less impressed on AMD's power reduction efforts than I was when I first heard of them. I was just commenting that the roadmap seems a bit more conservative on dual cores than the Inquirer article originally suggested. And meanwhile, I wasn't expecting 3.0GHz until 65nm, so that's a mild surprise.
