In 2011 New Year's Day is on a Saturday. Special rules for the organized exchanges apply and they states that when a holiday falls on a Saturday the holiday is observed on the previous Friday. However, if the previous Friday is at the end of a monthly or annual Accounting Cycle the Holiday is not observed. Friday 31, 2010 is the end of an accounting period – these rules will take effect and there will be no New Year’s Day observed.
