In the tradition of some of the other, hugely impactful youth-angst classics from legendary director Joel Schumacher, TWELVE adds cell phones and short attention spans to portray an insightful and surprisingly witty look at the over-privileged youth of New York's Upper East Side. While the abundant narration by Kiefer Sutherland can at times feel overwhelming, it does provide an efficient insight into the thought-processes of the characters in a time-mode more representative of today's technologically-driven, short attention spans than does film exposition from the past. If you go-with-the-flow and accept the pacing as a window into the mindset of the characters, you'll love this film! On the other hand, if you're still a technology dinosaur, or if you prefer laboriously long pauses between scenes, you probably won't get TWELVE. As with many other Schumacher classics, TWELVE may be ahead of the mainstream wave of today, but is likely to become cherished over time for its revolutionary style.
