#2445 RE: Elmer Phud #2443

Elmer, that's some big news.

If UMC cancels their joint venture with AMD, AMD will be screwed for 65nm and 300mm wafer development. I wonder if this would also mean that UMC would cancel the custom foundry work that they were doing for AMD, too. In that case, UMC's generic process would far underperform the minimum performance that AMD would need to be competitive, and AMD would be stuck with their fab in Dresden as the only source for CPUs.

I wonder why AMD hasn't fallen on this news. Maybe the rumor is too far from being substantiated.

Hi Elmer,

I have been away from home and a computer for several weeks and am just catching up. If I have digested all the news on AMD properly with a very quick review, it appears AMD is literally falling apart. This latest rumor re: AMD and UMC sounds like it could be the last nail in the coffin for aMD's uP business, if true, no? Do you think AMD is getting out of the uP biz?

Sorry for these questions if they have already been covered. I've got a lot of catching up to do.

greg.
