Leading Broadband Entertainment Provider Consolidates Network Data Backup for Improved Business Continuity on Brocade Storage Area Network
SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Brocade Communications Systems, Inc. (Brocade(R)) BRCD, the world's leading provider of infrastructure solutions for Storage Area Networks (SANs), announced today that Sony (China) Ltd., a leading provider of audio, video, communications, and information technology products for the consumer and professional markets, has standardized on Brocade as the highly available, intelligent foundation for its storage environment. Enterprises such as Sony (China) Ltd. need to cost-effectively manage the rapid growth of information created by e-business and other data-intensive applications, such as SAP and e-mail.
Sony has turned to a Brocade SAN as a cost-effective way of centralizing and managing critical enterprise data. The company determined that a Brocade SAN would give them the ability to implement a strategic IT infrastructure, increase application performance, and manage ever-growing information assets. The Sony (China) SAN is based on 2 gigabit per second Brocade SilkWorm(R) 3800 Enterprise Fabric Switches and currently gives the company continuous access to more than 500 gigabytes of data.
"As a result of implementing a Brocade SAN, we have reduced our backup time to nine hours, allowing for daily backups. These can be performed overnight, so critical business operations are not interrupted. In addition, because we have removed the LAN from the backup and recovery process by implementing a SAN, each server sends its own backup data directly to the shared tape resources instead of through the network to the backup server, giving us continuous access to data," said Jin Yong, Sony (China)'s IS Department Supervisor.
"Brocade is pleased to work with Sony to help it handle rapid growth of data and the demand for high-speed data information processing. Brocade continues to exceed the needs of our customers by enabling global organizations like Sony to develop and deploy strategic SAN infrastructure strategies to better manage growth while optimizing existing IT environments," said Jeffrey Brooks, Brocade Chief Marketing Officer.
