I'm sure we'll see a gradual shift to both battery and alternate fuel powered vehicles. Hybrids like the Chevy Volt are a good example.
As technology advances and oil prices keep climbing, the gas powered vehicles will be phased out.

Big oil resisted the ethanol industry for years, but once ethanol was entrenched, big oil came in and bought the ones that failed for .10 on the dollar.
