It's semantics. It's called a sell because someone has to sell you the shares for you to get them.

Every transaction has a buyer and a seller, it's just who initiated the transaction. A trade can't happen at the ask unless someone buys those shares, and a trade can't happen at the bid unless someone sells them shares.
