That sounds like an advertisement for the antiquated way of doing things by the old guard, the Big 3. We are investing in the Next Generation of technology that will support the ever growing hunger for more information obtained wirelessly at lighting fast speeds that cannot be achieved today by the technology currently offered to the masses. Enter MDGC and its disruptive technology. All notions of what was will quickly be replaced by what MDGC will be, IMHO.
From what I gather LMDS has also had its knobs tweeked from its first inception over 10 years ago. The latest revisions of LMDS could go over 30 miles and could be even faster then 1gbps.
The problems with laying cable are undeniable. You have to either dig in the ground or hang on poles the entire distance. Sometimes it can be very expensive and can take many years to get permits and do the installation. LMDS offers fiber optic speeds with quick setup and low cost makingg it ideal in a wide array of conditions.
It's a technology as other agree was born at the wrong time. Recently has the demand for this type of technology increased as we experiencing starvation for evermore bandwidth.
