PRLog (Press Release) – Dec 06, 2010 – Did President Obama give his secret blessing to the stem cell industry despite religious opposition? It certainly seems that this is the case. In the last few months, the FDA willingly approved human clinical trials two to leading stem cell research firms; Geron and Advanced Cell Technologies.

President Obama made it clear on his campaign trail that he would back stem cell research and allocate federal funding and grants to innovative stem cell research firms to further advance the industry. To date, multiple companies have received millions of dollars in grants to find cures ranging from diabetes, spinal cord injuries, and blindness.

One company of note, Advanced Cell Technologies, has won the second FDA approval in US history for Stem Cell human clinical trials. (The first approved human trial was awarded to Geron, however they are tackling a very complicated medical issue which may take years to prove successful.)

Advanced Cell Technologies, currently trading at 10 cents at the time of writing this article, and is well on its way to find a cure for Macular Degeneration, age-related blindness, which affects over 30 million Americans alone. If their clinical trials are successful, this will leave them with a clear monopoly on this untapped market.

There is no shortage of stem cell opposition in many religious sects, however, the tides seemed to have changed under the Obama Administration. The stem cell industry has struggled greatly for the past decade under the Bush Administration.

Top stem cell research analysts are in agreement that Advanced Cell Technologies is well positioned to be the first US FDA approved Stem Cell Therapy. Their human clinical trials are expected to start in the first quarter of 2011, and can potentially take only a few weeks to show positive results. This is most likely the reason why investors have been buying up shares on the open market the past few weeks pushing up the companies stock over 100%.
